WIP Wednesday

I've been rolling around joyfully in mustard and purple fabric! Well, not literally :). But I've been having fun making this impromptu quilt. I also just posted a tutorial for the purple blocks, which you can find by clicking on the "Tutorials" tab under my blog header.

Mustard/yellow nine patches are all sewn and awaiting some solid yellow sashing:

I threw together the design for the purple blocks as a simplified version of a paper pieced block I designed awhile ago. The paper pieced block has more fun angles, which are tricky to do with traditional piecing, hence the need for simplification.

I have to buy a bit more of the solid purple (a Kona solid) and two more purple prints to finish up the squares, so for now, I'm stuck at halfway done. (I have to order them online since purple prints are harrrd to find.) I'm planning on alternating purple and mustard blocks throughout the quilt.

I've also (finally!) started putting together the Winter Trees pillow I was supposed to finish as part of July's Just Three. Not quite done, unfortunately, because my walking foot has been....mean to me. My binding is ALMOST attached fully on one side, then I'll be able to hand stitch the backside and stuff it!
