Happy to announce that Mr. Late Arrival has finally shown up!

Augustine James (who we are calling Gus) was born on Sunday at 6:08 pm, weighing in at 8 lbs, 2 oz.

Apparently people think this is a girl’s name….
Now, it was popular among some hipsters in the 1910s and 1940s to name their baby girls Augustine, but uh….it’s originally a boy’s name.

More specifically, this dude:

It’s driving me a little bit crazy. I was not expecting gender confusion on this one!

Anyway….

I was planning on getting off another post about my purging process, but somebody has decided to be a sleepy nurser who takes forever to eat, so uh…that will be a little late :)

In the meantime, I’ll just be enjoying little Gus over here!

Oh congratulations Amy! Gorgeous, gorgeous name. Don’t worry, it can’t be worse than the reaction to our second son (Tenzin, after the Dalai Lama) – most people either say what? and look confused, or comment on what a weird name. He likes it though!

Congrats on the little Gus! just guessing but the “ine” ending is usually feminine. If just ‘in’ on the end you would pronounce the name Au GUS tin and then no confusion to those people. I think you picked a lovely name and he has lots to live up to. :)

Augustine is a great name! I grew up with an Augustine, actually he was several years older and I was friends with his younger sibling. Unfortunately, I used to call him Augie Doggie (hangs head in shame) but I think it’s great that you’ve nipped that idea in the bud by calling him Gus! Wishing you love and good health!

Congratulations! That’s awesome! Wouldn’t the female version be Augustina not Augustine? A wonderful name in any case. I wasn’t expecting people to pronounce my youngest’s name Mee-cah, instead of My-cah, which happens regularly. It’s not a common name, but I thought it was well-known enough for people to know how it’s usually pronounced. I guess I was wrong. LOL!

Congratulations on the birth of Gus!!! Oh the gender confusion…my daughter, Tristan, was constantly put in the boys cabin at church camp…I checked “F” but I guess they didn’t look!!! She likes her name and Gus will like his too!!! Enjoy every minute, they truly do fly by!

Congrats! I don’t think it matters how hard you work to come up with a name – checking initials, what possible misinterpretations folks can make, what fun can be poked when put with the last name, some are going to make something out of nothing. I worked very, very hard to make sure that my children would go by their first names (I was always called by my middle name) and there was no possible way to kid them about their names – well, that didn’t happen. So, just know that you gave your son a great name!! I love it. Again, congrats.

Awwwwwww!!!! Congratulations, and welcome Gus!! Augustine is totally a boys name in the UK. The girl version would be Augustina. You’ll have to move over here ;-)
