"Echo" Quilt Block Tutorial {Honey Pot Bee}

Today, I have the pleasure of presenting a quilt block tutorial for the March installment of Molli's Honey Pot Bee. I pulled together a minimized version of the traditional Courthouse Steps quilt block, and used my favorite chunky linen for background. So without further ado.....here's the post!

Hey cool people! I'm Amy Garro, the paper-piecing obsessed woman here at 13 Spools who loves ombre, the color blue, and approximately nothing else. Jk. Mostly. But do not worry, I set aside my freakish, point-loving paper piecing ways for this block, since this tree-hating method tends to garner a kind of a love/hate/hate/hate sort of reaction out there.

Seriously, though. You should love it.

Got it, done, let's do this thang!!

Cutting Directions:

Accent Color A 1. Cut (1) piece 1.25” x WOF

Accent Color B 1. Cut (1) piece 1.25” x WOF

Background Fabric 1. Cut (2) strips 0.75” x WOF. Do not subcut.

2. Cut (1) strip 2.5” x WOF. Subcut (2) pieces 2.5” x 6”. Trim remaining strip down to 1.5” and use in Step 4.

3. In addition to 1.5” strip from Step 2,cut (1) strip 1.5” x WOF. Subcut: - (4) pieces 5” x 1.5” - (4) pieces 4” x 1.5” - (4) pieces 3” x 1.5” - (4) pieces 2” x 1.5” - (4) pieces 1” x 1.5”

Piecing Directions

1. Sew 1.25”x WOF Accent Color A strip to 0.75” x WOF Background strip. Press open.

2. Subcut sections the following lengths: - 1.5” - 3.5” - 5.5” - 7.5” - 9.5” - 11.5”

3. Sew together 1.5" background and pieced sections from Step 2 in following combinations:

(2) background pieces 1" x 1.5" and (1) pieced section 11.5" x 1.5"

(2) background pieces 2" x 1.5" and (1) pieced section 9.5" x 1.5"

(2) background pieces 3" x 1.5" and (1) pieced section 7.5" x 1.5"

(2) background pieces 4" x 1.5" and (1) pieced section 5.5" x 1.5"

(2) background pieces 5" x 1.5" and (1) pieced section 3.5" x 1.5"

Press open.

4. Repeat Steps 1 - 3 with Accent Color B.

5. Sew together 1.5" pieced sections made with Colors A and B. Press open. Sew to (2) background pieces 2.5" x 6". Press open.

6. Sew together pieced sections in order shown. Press open.

 

Then hang it on your wall, help yo' block snap some selfies, and party quilt on.
