Blogger’s Quilt Festival: Mod Blocks

Hi there! Welcome to any visitors from the Blogger’s Quilt Festival. My name is Amy Garro, and I’m a stay at home mom of 3 boys under 3. My husband watches the kids from time to time so I can indulge my quilting addiction ;)
For this year’s Blogger’s Quilt Festival, I’m entering my Mod Blocks quilt.
This quilt was inspired by a regency-style wallpaper. I altered the design until it felt just right for a quilt.
In keeping with the rectangular design of the quilt, I quilted an all-over rectangular meander.

When I designed this quilt on the computer, 78″ x 90″ didn’t seem very large, but man! This guy is big! It was a lot of work to push it through my old, tiny machine. The width of it is as long as my futon, making it quite luxurious to stretch out under.

I used all Kaffe Fassett shot cottons, which means the texture of the quilt top is extremely soft. It quickly became my favorite nap-on-the-couch quilt.
mod 4
The pattern I wrote for this quilt appears in the Winter 2014 issue of Modern Quilts Unlimited. It’s my first quilt in a printed publication, and I’m so honored it was included!
Thanks so much for visiting, and many thanks to Amy for holding the festival! If you feel so inclined, check out the different tabs at the top of my page to learn more about me and to see some more of my quilt projects :) My other BQF entry, Flocks & Blocks, can be found here.

I absolutely loved this quilt when I first saw it on your blog, I just have to source the magazine here in Australia and it will head straight to the top of the ‘must do’ pile.
Thank you for some beautiful, inspiring quilts

Can I tell you a secret? I was thinking of entering my quilt into the “Original Design” category, but then I saw this one and I thought “NO WAY can I compete with that!” Not that it’s a competition… but I seriously love this quilt.
Mine is now in the ROYGBIV category. ;)

This is a big beauty, Amy. Love the simplicity of the design. And you chose the perfect fabrics to show it off. The quilting is such a compliment. I can’t imagine how you did that on a small machine! Bravo!

Absolutely striking – what a fantastic use of three colours. The quilting is just the icing on the cake. I love it !

Beautiful modern quilt! I can see why it got published! Very striking design, I love the aqua and white with the black accent. And I just imagine how super it is “in person” with the shot cottons!
